Year 2006

Landis+Gyr renews its confidence in Equant and migrates its full infrastructure to an Equant Adaptive VPN solution

Four-year contract extension includes network design, messaging upgrade and new mobile messaging solution

Paris and Zug, Switzerland - March 7, 2006 - Landis+Gyr, the Zug, Switzerland-based global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of electricity meter and related equipment, has renewed its contract with Equant for four years and is implementing a new Equant Adaptive VPN solution to include additional sites covering 24 countries.

With Landis+Gyr's new ownership by Bayard Group of Austalia, the communications infrastructure of the consolidated new company was more complex. Equant redesigned the company's network, taking into account new business requirements. Landis+Gyr needed to implement a newly designed solution aligning these strategic goals and benefiting from a modern communications solution that would enable it to carry out its business in a more cost effective environment, while at the same time improving bandwidth and reducing complexity.

Equant completely redesigned its existing homogenous MPLS solution into an Adaptive network and upgraded the hosted messaging solution supporting mobility. The mobile messaging solution enables management to react quickly and efficiently, independently of location and time, which is an important factor in a dynamic market where new, innovative generations of metering solutions are developed and manufactured. Furthermore, the new communications solution enables Landis+Gyr's network infrastructure to be ready for the company's future strategic plans.

Key benefits for Landis+Gyr regarding the new agreement with Equant are:

  • Optimizing the overall communications infrastructure on Equant's converged IP VPN platform.
  • Complete redesign of existing MPLS network into an Adaptive VPN solution to benefit more flexibility, cost effectiveness and a technology refresh.
  • Messaging upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2003.
  • Integration of mobility features with the management of Blackberry servers.
  • Significant cost savings.

The initial contract signed in 2003 covered Landis+Gyr's worldwide communication infrastructure and its messaging platform. The comprehensive combination of network, messaging, Internet access, security and LAN elements with end-user support all from a single source was the winning argument in favor of Equant's services.

"In 2003 Landis+Gyr put its confidence in Equant as it was the telecom supplier that best fulfilled the requirements of our needs," said Gavin Dietz, chief information officer, Bayard and Landis+Gyr Group. "With the new redesign of our communications solution, we confirm that Equatn is able to fully adapt its solutions to the more complex environment we face."

"This new contract demonstrates the success and development of Equant's services strategy," said Serge Adam, managing director of Equant in Switzerland. "We are extremely pleased to provide the redesign of communication infrastructure for Landis+Gyr, a true industry innovator. Customers like Landis+Gyr are asking Equant to help them meet their most difficult challenge: adapt technology to drive revenue growth and profitability while reducing IT spend and maintaining customer satisfaction."
